What is Health Coaching?

Hey - welcome to my first blog post!

I wanted to introduce my blog by sharing an overview of what health coaching is, what I can support you with as a coach, what the client–coach relationship looks like, and more. By the end, I hope you’ll have a clearer sense of whether health coaching is right for you.

Health Coaching is a collaborative, client-centred approach where a trained coach supports individuals in developing and sustaining healthy behaviours. Rather than focusing on medical diagnosis, health coaching helps people explore the lifestyle patterns and contributing factors that influence their overall well-being. It blends behaviour-change science, motivational strategies, and personalised goal-setting to support improvements in physical, mental, and emotional health.

A Health Coach is a trained practitioner who considers all aspects of a client’s life to understand how certain behaviours and patterns may be contributing to poor health outcomes. Areas of focus can include nutrition, daily habits, stress levels, sleep quality, current health concerns, and medical history.

The Coach + Client relationship - In holistic health coaching, the process is collaborative—not a one-way exchange of instructions. After exploring a client’s goals, barriers, concerns, and health history, the coach and client work together to create realistic, evidence-based actions tailored to the client’s life. The coach’s role is to empower the client while providing information, guidance, motivation, and ongoing support.
